"What makes a crab feast so fun? Eating with your hands? Rubbing shoulders with friends and strangers? Hammering to get to the biggest piece of jumbo lump? It's primitive all right. It's what the Chesapeake is all about."

The 1st annual Hammer & Claws Blue Crab Feast invaded NYC in 2011, and brought the taste of the Chesapeake Bay to the Big Apple. New York loved it, and from now on, the Feast will take place annually - always on the weekend after Labor Day. So keep your calendars clear and always know that you're end of the season Blue Crab cravings will be satisfied.

Hammer & Claws is brought to you by Joshua Morgan, a Maryland native and the founder/owner of Choptank Restaurant - New York's first authentic Maryland inspired restaurant. This event is a truly authentic crab feast, exactly like those seen throughout Maryland during the summer crab season. Every year, New Yorkers will be able to experience this quintessential Maryland tradition. No summer should end without a crab feast.

The Feast will take place in the historic Tunnel Space of the Terminal Stores building in Chelsea, on 11th Ave, between 27th and 28th. The large, expansive venue is the perfect spot for an indoor crab feast, and it offers guests a fun and unique dining experience. Our live, cooked-on-site, Maryland blue crabs take center stage, and are complimented by classic items like hotdogs, traditional sides, coleslaw, potatoes, and corn on the cob. And don't forget that no Feast is complete without lots of cold beer. Remember, our Feasts are All-Inclusive, so be prepared for unlimited crab picking, claw cracking and lots of beer drinking.

See you at the next Feast!

Hammer & Claws Blue Crab Feast supports the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.

Last year Choptank had an overwhelmingly successful crab season and we have realized how much New Yorkers love their blue crabs. With Hammer & Claws, we are bringing you the same authentic experience, just on a larger scale. To see what a crab feast is all about, watch the following videos:

Blue Crabs are steamed, not boiled.
So it's NEVER referred to as a "Crab Boil."
In MD, it's just a "Crab Feast."

At an authentic Maryland Crab Feast, only Male Crabs are served.
A male crab is also known as a "Jimmy."

ShoreLine Seafood of Crofton, MD, will provide approximately 500 bushels of crabs. This is equal to almost 48,000 Blue Crabs!

Massive, custom-built mobile trucks are used
to steam 8 - 10 bushels in one pot.

After 12 minutes in a steamer with Old Bay, beer
and a little vinegar, the Blue Crabs are ready for picking!
